Paredes launches the Paredes Clean Index, a system for displaying the environmental footprint of all its products, encouraging customers to buy more responsibly and suppliers to adopt eco-design approaches.

This system, unprecedented in the hygiene and cleaning industry, is based on Glimpact technology and the PEF method, adopted as a reference framework by the European Union.

Paredes has taken a major step forward in its commitment to the ecological transition of the hygiene and industrial cleaning market by introducing a systematic assessment of the environmental footprint of all its products, based on the reference methodological framework adopted by the European Union.

A valuable decision-making tool for customers

This innovative device, set up in collaboration with Glimpact and based on its eponymous technology, is a first and fits perfectly with the application of the new European regulation on the eco-design of products (ESPR) adopted by the European Union and coming into force on July 18, 2024.

Paredes now displays the environmental scores of its products for professional customers on its online sales site. But the company doesn't stop there: it also provides its customers with a calculator enabling them to measure the total environmental footprint of their purchases. This unique tool provides customers with a valuable decision-making aid for reducing their own ecological impact.

A pioneering commitment to transforming the industry

Aware that the bulk of its environmental footprint comes from the products it sells, Paredes is taking a proactive approach by raising its suppliers' awareness of the impact of their products and of ways to reduce it through an eco-design approach. The aim is clear: to reduce the environmental impact of hygiene products and initiate a sustainable transformation of the entire industry.

Today, almost 1,000 references in the Paredes online catalog benefit from the Paredes Clean Index, a rating system based on a scale from A to E and accompanied by an intuitive color code. Each reference also benefits from an indication of its carbon footprint (kg CO₂e).

This innovative scheme required several months' work and the active participation of nearly 170 French and international suppliers. It represents a major step towards the EU-wide implementation of a unified, scientifically rigorous method for calculating the overall environmental footprint of products.

By positioning itself as a forerunner, Paredes is not only anticipating future regulations, it is also creating an exemplary dynamic for the entire hygiene products and industrial cleaning sector, paving the way for a more virtuous and sustainable industry.

About Paredes:

Paredes is a French company specializing in the manufacture and distribution of professional hygiene and protection solutions. The company operates exclusively on a B-to-B basis, serving a wide range of customers including local authorities, healthcare establishments, industry, cleaning companies and catering professionals.

A long-standing player in the sector, Paredes offers a complete range of hygiene products, personal protective equipment (PPE), consumables, CSR support, training and technical advice. In 2023, Paredes merged with the Orapi group, another major player in the hygiene and disinfection market. This merger created a French leader in the sector.

About Glimpact :

Glimpact, a young French company also based in Belgium, is the first digital platform for assessing the global environmental impact of products and organizations according to the EU's new scientific doctrine. It makes the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) method, developed by the European scientific community and adopted by the EU in 2018, accessible to all players, not just to measure the environmental footprint of their products or organizations, but above all to identify the right levers for action to reduce it.

Glimpact has been chosen by the government to coordinate one of the methods examined as part of the government experiment on environmental labelling of food and textile products, and is a member of the technical committee responsible for assisting the Ministry of Ecological Transition in defining the terms and conditions of the environmental labelling that the Climate and Resilience Act makes compulsory.

The start-up has also been chosen by the European Commission, following a worldwide call for tenders, to implement legislation in the battery and photovoltaic solar panel sectors, which will require these players to display the environmental footprint of their products, measured using the PEF method.

Glimpact already boasts solid expertise and experience with major players in industry and distribution, including the Lacoste, Decathlon, Mars, Gant, Carrefour, Puratos, Manutan, Spadel, Adeo, Lyreco, Pimkie, Chantelle, Celio, Aigle, Galler and Bewital groups.
